WHY ARE POSTAL WORKERS NOT IN UNIFORM ANYMORE?

Neighbors, and civilians, as well as I, have noticed that more and more US Postal mail handlers in Gary, Indiana who deliver our mail seem to have ditched the postal uniforms for civilian clothing.

Who said this practice was OK?  I am tired of those that share the same skin color lowering the standards of protocol because Gary is predominately black and we share a skin color.  Nope.

Every service Industry from UPS to AT&T wears uniforms, along with badges to identify themselves from civilians.  Just because you are black like us gives you no get out of protocol card.

It is tiring, to say the least, that protocols and norms are being changed that will adversely affect the “hood” because of this.  Treat us like you would treat a white person or those who identify as white and/or nonblack.

Who said this was OK, and why wasn’t the public informed?  Our opinions matter as well.  Suffice to say that if you were in a predominately white community, this would be a concern and would not be allowed.  That being said, don’t treat the service delivery or social norms any differently in the black community.

Not only that, nowadays we have so many scams going on.  What happens when criminals find a way to gain entry to your home by holding mail in their hands as they walk up to your front door with civilian clothing?  What has this practice opened us up too?  Unbeknownst to some but when we see a person appearing to deliver mail, we let our alerts down.  We willingly open our doors to receive our mail.  Now, this act of not wearing a postal uniform sets the precedent to become potential victims of crime.  Anyone can be dressed as a civilian with fake mail in hand knowing our doors will open to greet the mail person.

Usually, those in the service industry who come to your home have identifications and uniforms so you can identify the company, and just because we are black and the postal employees are black does not give you a get-out-of-jail card to do what you want to do.

We should be able to identify by uniform of who is coming to our front door and our mailboxes.  To file a complaint, click on the underlined red link below.

Anything out of the norm for mail delivery should be reported.
