JUNETEENTH, 2021 IN GARY

JUNETEENTH, 2021  IN GARY

Garyians came out in droves to the Juneteenth Celebration held at the City Hall Grounds.  This outpouring of support was coupled with the spirit of Re-imagining Gary.

The event was not only well organized but the Vendors were plentiful.    All of the display tables gave a unique message of support for Gary residents.  There was a wealth of information from every vendor, along with a Live Band, DJ, Free Food and games for the children.  The Vendors table exhibited professionalism, and each Vendor was unique in their delivery of goods and/or services.

The event captured the spirit of Juneteenth in a predominately African American  community.  If you did not come, you missed a really nice event.  All done in a tasteful and tactful manner.  BEAUTIFUL!      It was engaging, and everyone there came with a positive and uplifting spirit.

Garyside.com applauds Our Mayor, all the vendors, participants, attendees, Council people, Gary police, as well as those who organized the event.

Again the event was professional, as well as over the top.  The marketing was excellent.  The vendors, DJ’s, band, city representations, and Gary police officers were gracious, and as always came with a community spirit.  If I did not mention anyone, it was not intentional.  Please charge it to my mind, and not my heart, as everyone was professional, and the delivery of services/information was excellent.

In talking to the vendors at the Juneteenth celebration, Garyside.com learned that the Arthouse, a Social Kitchen was also hosting an event on Juneteenth.    Both the events were memorable, very nice and eventful.

Garyside.com took pictures, but please take a special look at the sky that graced the beauty of the events.    It seemed that not only did the sky grace  Juneteenth, but it looked as if the heavens opened up to honor our ancestors.  The background of the sky was breathtaking and gorgeous.   The sky appeared as if heaven correlated its beauty to the event.  Awesome!   Kudos to all from Garyside.com

After learning about the festivities at the Arthouse from one of the Vendors; Garyside.com ventured there as well.  In one word.  Awesome!

Nothing stopped the spirit, however, in earshot of the Arthouse Festivities there were Hispanics on the same block sitting on the stairs of a house.  They blasted their music– in Spanish.  One visitor to the event commented that “we don’t even speak Spanish.  This is so rude. We can’t even hear each other.”

Nothing stopped our flow at the Arthouse Festivities.  The Vendors.  as well as the culinary students kept their tasteful, professional demeanor, and continued serving the visitors in a dignified, courteous and professional manner.

Those Hispanics played their music louder and louder; what’s more in Spanish.  Their music literally drowned out our voices while their music blasted in Spanish.  However, the Arthouse representatives’, visitors,  and those culinary students’ professionalism was unsurpassed, and Garyians just kept on keeping on.

Those Hispanics never got off the porch to come down to the event or patronize a predominately black community that they live amongst.  They did not even turn their music down.  They just continued to blast their music, in Spanish while we had to shout in English to speak to each other.
